And we’re certainly thrilled to help you get there, but first…there are a few simple steps and requirements you’ll need to complete, before you’re able to get behind-the-wheel, be sure you Register for our Online Course
Is the permit test included in this course?
Yes, our course includes the Official DPS Road Rules & Road Signs (Permit) test.
How soon can I take my Permit test?
Once you begin our course, you’ll be able to take your permit test after successfully completing Module 1 of 12. Please note that a student MUST be at least 15 years of age.
How does a student get their permit after passing the permit test?
- Pass the “Permit” test
- Download and Print your Certificate of Completion (Learner License)
- Have your approved Parent/Instructor sign the Certificate
- Schedule your Permit Application Appointment with your local DPS
- Submit the Application & Necessary Documents to your local DPS
- Once you obtain your Learner License from DPS you can begin your in-car instruction
The student and their “designated” instructor must appear, in person, at their local DPS office to submit all of the necessary documents and fees required to obtain a learner’s permit from DPS. Per DPS, a person may not begin any driving instruction until they obtain a Learner License (PERMIT) from DPS.
Please Note that the student MUST be at least 15 years of age to apply for a Permit.
Can I walk-in to DPS or do I have to schedule my appointment online?
Current DPS guidelines require everyone applying for a Driver’s Permit or License to schedule an appointment online, directly through the DPS website.

Will I be required to take another “Permit” test at DPS?
NO, you will not be required to take another permit test at the DPS office, because you will have already taken it through our website.
What do I take to DPS to get my Driving Permit?
- Completed Application (DL-14b)
- Proof of U.S. Citizenship or Evidence of Lawful Presence
- Proof of Residency
- Proof of Identity
- Proof of Social Security Number
- Proof of Insurance
- Completed & Signed DE964 Certificate
- Verification of Enrollment (VOE)
- Permit Application Fee
- Receipt for the ($20) PTDE Program Guide

When can I begin to drive?
You may begin the “Behind-the-Wheel (In-Car)” instruction with your approved parent-instructor after receiving your Learner License (Permit) from DPS.
Note that a student-driver MUST always carry their Learner License (Permit) when driving,
may NOT drive alone and must always be accompanied by a “Licensed” driver who;
- is at least 21 years of age,
- holds a Current and Valid Texas Driver License
- has at least One (1) year of driving experience and
- Always Occupies the Front Passenger seat (next to the student-driver)
- is mentally, physically and emotionally prepared to observe and respond to the actions of the student driver
- does NOT engage in any unsafe or illegal driving activity or behavior
Before beginning any Parent Taught Driving Course, you must first purchase a Parent Taught Driver Education (PTDE) Program Guide from the Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation. TDLR will charge a separate registration fee for the PTDE Guide, that is not associated with or included in our course fee.
